2:58 — Chapter Fifteen: Hell, Hell, the Gang’s All Here

Dwarf detective Billi Baddings was originally hired by socialite Julia Lesinger to uncover the “why’s” behind the death of her mobster boyfriend Pretty Boy DeMayo. Unexpectedly, he uncovered the existence of The Singing Sword, an ancient talisman from his own homeworld of Acryonis. This weapon of mass destruction is now somewhere in the streets of the Windy City and everyone from crooked curators to frustrated feds to the big boss — Alphonse “Scarface” Capone himself — is looking for it.

Oddly enough, the breakthrough in this case — both in DeMayo’s death and The Singing Sword — happened over Mick’s chicken soup and ham-and-cheese special. The hunch led Billi to a speakeasy and left him at the docks.

Tonight, everything happens.

Great Caesar’s Ghost! Another amazing chapter. I won’t spoil anything, but DAYUM. I am happy, happy, happy that this is one of the chapters sponsored by The Sorrow.

Great work, Tee, Leann, Dani, and Orion!

Ho. Lee. _Crap!_ O_O

This episode stunned me — not just with the awesome production values, but with the actual events contained therein. I totally did NOT see the twist with Julia coming, nor did I expect Billi to be as callously pragmatic as he was. Granted, doing what he did almost certainly saved his life, but even so, it was unexpected. After reading Harry Dresden for so many years, I guess I expect all private dicks to have his over-developed sense of chivalry. :)

All the voice actors did a terrific job on this one. Orion continues to impress me with how well he plays Chicago’s Kingpin of Crime, Dani gives another very nice performance aas Daphne, and Leann … wow. What can I say about Leann? Girl, you crazy. And I mean that in the best possible sense. :)

Keep up the great work! Some of what happened in this episode made me sad, but it’s still one hell of a ride.

Tee, what an ending! The amont of passion and effort you put into this production just blows my mind. I know you’re not eligible for a Parsec this year, but if you don’t get on in 08 then I know something is seriously wrong with the world.

You weren’t kidding about pulling out the stops and working that MacPro! I think this one crosses the line from mere podcast to full audio drama.

Very nice work from all the voice players.

I must confess, perhaps it’s the limitation of listening to the story as I drive and not catching every detail, but a lot of the “Billy Solves the Case” banter with Julia seemed to come out of nowhere. Perhaps it will come through better in the written form.

Still, it’s been a great ride.

Great story, greater production. You have my undying respect, Sir Tee.

I listened to the whole thing this morning and was blown away. You outdid yourself on this one. And I can’t say enough about your guest voices — they consistently rise to the occasion. Your reading of the story is always spot on — such as, “I wish you hadn’t said that, Al.” Just the way you delivered that line made me laugh out loud.

SPOILER ALERT

I was bummed that Leann ended up being the villain, but WHAT a villain!

END OF SPOILER

Anyway, this has been an awesome podcast novel. Thanks for all your work.

Tim

YOWZA!

Man oh man, was this a great episode! Best chapter to date (putting aside dwarf loving, of course!). ;-)

How is it that this book is not a movie yet? ‘Cause the final battle was such a Hollywood moment. I could just picture this on the silver screen.

Absolutely fantastic, Tee. You’ve raised yourself up to a whole new level with this one.

I look forward to hearing Billi’s future adventures, and I hope he makes his way to Kansas City sometime in the future. Mr. Pendergast would like a word!
