There is another Survival Guide #30 out there, but that episode is shelved until further notice. Some bad juju and unabashed venting might not be the right approach for this show…

So how does The Sarge make it up to the troops for keeping you in wait? He brings into the trenches Nebula-winning author James Patrick Kelly. Jim has been publishing science fiction and fantasy since the eighties, has been nominated for Hugos and Nebulas, has won the Hugo twice, and also assumes the helms of editor, columnist, and professor. After several shots at the Nebula, Jim finally won the SFWA-sponsored award for his novelette, Burn.

What makes this 2007 Nebula win so ground-breaking? Jim won for the podcast edition.

Take a listen for Jim’s perspectives on…

  • marketing yourself as an author
  • writing short stories and novellas in a novel market
  • an academic look on the SF/F/H genre
  • podcasting impact on the publishing industry
  • getting something for nothing
  • winning the Nebula…and still paying for a cup of coffee at Panera’s

And I’m not stopping here! Some special editions of Survival Guide (to make up for the lapse in time) are coming soon…
