The Adventure Begins...

This epic novel written by Lisa Lee and Tee Morris begins in the most unlikely of places — a chat room on the Internet. Part of the (now offline) Webchat Broadcasting System, Nia’s Tavern was a haven for online gamers and role players who combined their various gaming rules and characters to interact between one another.

It was merely a morning's diversion for Tee — a fun way to keep his imagination sharp and at play. He was about to embark on a very different kind of journey upon the brief meeting with Askana Moldarin...

“I had entered Nia’s early that morning and was casually observing the clientele. A character popped up on my screen and caught my attention. Alongside the character's chatroom post was one of the most unique portraits I had seen for a character. Her character motto read ‘The female of the species is deadlier than the male.’ The name was Askana Moldarin, First Queen of Morevi. I knew, whomever this player was, this character would be a lot of fun to roleplay against.”

The graphic that caught Tee’s eye was a work from Chris Achellos, accomplished fantasy and science fiction artist whose portfolio includes the poster art for the science fiction film, Blade Runner. The player in question was Lisa Lee who was finding very little diversion in Nia’s that particular day.

“I was heading out of the Tavern. I had already been there for an hour or so and not a great deal was happening. Nothing worth mentioning anyway. Many times, my experiences in the Tavern involved me posting two or three paragraphs and receiving a two worded response; or I would find myself playing opposite of someone whose main idea of ‘stimulating roleplay’ was two or more characters hopping into bed together. Then on my way out of the Tavern, I catch a post for me from a character calling himself Rafe Rafton. He roleplayed with me as if the tavern's roof was on fire! He called me by name, knew my character was a queen...all the while I am thinking ‘Who is this?’

Little did I know how this would turn out...”

The initial exchange in Nia’s between Rafe Rafton and Askana Moldarin lasted barely fifteen minutes, but it was enough to begin an e-mail roleplay. The device was simple enough. Lisa and Tee exchanged information about one another’s characters and then one would begin with a series of events, leave an open ending, and the other would respond with a resolution, leading to yet another unresolved situation for the other to begin the next installment.

Writng the next installment...

“It started very innocently. First she sent a page and a half. A follow up meeting to the brief roleplay between us. I responded with about three pages. Lisa’s response was another three more pages. I sent back five. She responded with five. Every week there would be a little installment in our e-mail boxes. Then a tragedy in my family sent me out of town and out of reach of e-mail, but with PowerBook in hand I wrote to give myself a bit of peace in such a dark time. When I got back, Lisa was e-mailed fifteen pages of story. I was afraid after sending it she would be overwhelmed by it all...

Her next installment was over twenty pages."

For Lisa, the writing exercise was just as stimulating...

“I had no idea how much fun it would be to read his installments. It would come to a point where I would wait with bated breath to see what his next move would be! I remember a pair of writers described a dual effort like dancing. First they had to find the right partner, and then the effort given by each must be the same, with no slacking or slowing, no botched timing.

Writing with Tee is dancing!”

Both authors would reference character's webpages and swap detailed e-mails on the backgrounds of Morevi, King Henry's England, and past events in character’s lives. Each installment grew in depth, conflict, and character development. Less than a year and two hundred and fifty thousand words later, Lisa Lee and Tee Morris have created a world of conflict, love, anger, family relationships and human nature. This story reveals complex and emotive scenarios spanning parallel worlds. It is an epic set in a time when a kingdom hangs in the balance and her greatest ally is a pirate from a far off land.

And to think it all started with a fifteen minute encounter on the Internet...

Kosha Engler.com
Wait a minute? This is a section for historical links and Tee Morris has included a link to a modern actress' website? Well, not only does Tee consider Kosha Engler a "historical" link but an origin of a favorite scene from MOREVI. Kosha played Queen Kathryn Howard at the Maryland Renaissance Fesitval at the same time Tee was playing the bumbling and somewhat naïve town inventor, Quinton Edmund Devonshire. In a moment on the street, after enjoying a demonstration of the inventor's latest creation, Queen Kathryn — unseen by escort and attendants — shot Quinton a rakish wink. This moment inspired Queen Kathryn's greeting to Rafe Rafton in MOREVI's Chapter Eight: Homecoming.
